Abstract

The purpose of the article is to present a case study carried out with youtubers and other virtual influencers from the “machosphere”. In the mentioned groups we can find, evangelical pastors who defend the return to the ‘only-male’ breadwinner, the role of men as the only possible head of the family; those who, concerning love and sex conquest, behave as a ‘predator’ towards women and also those who despise women’s rights and opinions, having roots of misogyny. Our study was from 2018 to 2023. We also discuss the relationship between masculinist groups, contemporary political trends forward the ‘New Right’ in Brazil, as well as its implications for the current situation in the country, following the rise of extreme right-wing groups, their relationship with political violence and attacks on specific groups such as women, LGBTI+ people. Finally, it points to the hypothesis that Brazilian masculinist groups are components of this political aspect.
