Abstract

O misticismo constitui, para Weber, um dos elementos que define a religiosidade asiática. Partindo deste pressuposto, o artigo propõe-se a apresentar e refletir sobre a análise weberiana do misticismo oriental. Tomando como ponto de partida seus estudos de sociologia histórico-comparada das religiões universais, o texto reconstrói a conceituação dada por Weber à categoria típico-ideal de misticismo e revisa sua análise da mística no contexto das religiões da China (Confucionismo e Taoísmo) e da Índia (Hinduísmo e Budismo). Ao final, destaca-se o potencial explicativo da análise weberiana do misticismo para a compreensão da religiosidade ocidental contemporânea.
