Abstract

Based on a reflection on two ethnographic researches carried out by the author (2000; 2008) on youth time in poor neighborhoods of Recife, the article aims to stand for the heuristic potential of time for the study of youth. Both researches give priority to “lived time”, the first research brings questions about free time and the second one focuses the biographical dimensions. The article includes theoretical discussions about time and youth, especially from anthropology, and also shows the methodological choices followed by the author. Keywords: time, youth, everyday life, biographies.
