The Brazilian coast hosts a fourth of the country’s population, causing a unique densification in relation with other Brazilian regions. This densification of the coast provokes a list of questions about the socio-spatial dynamics that are developing in these spaces and about the perception of the beach in relation with the city. The literature presenting the beach and the coast as spaces different from the urban ones is important. However, we would like to argue that it is possible to consider the beach as a urban space that extends to the natural environment through urban practices and equipment. This reflection takes the Orla de Atalaia as an empirical fact, which urbanization process strengthen the beach’s environment as a space belonging to the city, confirming the city as a potency.
