Abstract

Nesse artigo, argumento que os thugs, jovens membros de gangs na cidade da Praia (Cabo Verde), não são uma descontinuidade histórica ou social, mas uma expressão paroxística de elementos próprios da cultura do país, da dinâmica identitária própria dos bairros e da masculinidade hegemônica. Na mesma medida, são também uma reação segundo lógicas sociais e culturais locais e através da apropriação de traços das culturas juvenis globais, às violentas transformações econômicas que têm marcado a sociedade cabo-verdiana na época pós-abertura.
