Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the conceptualization of gender in a plural dimension, that is, beyond heterosexuality. Considering that we are marked by the absence of the debate on gender and sexuality in school spaces, as well as in textbooks, we intend to demonstrate how the absence, or even the superficiality, of this debate can impact on students' education and lives. However, assuming that gender is constructed at all times, we will focus on some issues. Like the one that problematizes, from an educational point of view, how gender is constructed even in the most everyday things. So why is the school silent about the gender debate in the classroom?  Why don't philosophy teachers, who deal with issues that are essential to subjectivity and the constitution of the human being, address topics such as homophobia? Therefore, considering textbooks as an extremely important aid in the teaching process, the book "Filosofando: introdução à filosofia", by authors Maria Lúcia de Arruda Aranha and Maria Helene Pires Martin, and the Multiversos Collection by authors Alfredo Boulos Júnior, Edilson Adão and Laercio Furquim Jr, books from the "new high school model", will be analyzed in order to understand whether these contents appear in the books and how a possible absence or superficiality of the debate on gender and sexuality can affect the education and lives of Brazilian students.
