History of the journal
The Revista de Estudos de Cultura (REVEC), linked to the Center for Cultural Studies (NEC) at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS), emerged as an interdisciplinary space to foster innovative reflections on modern and contemporary culture. Since its creation, the journal has sought to bring together researchers from the fields of Humanities, Social and Applied Sciences, Literature, Linguistics, and Arts, promoting a reciprocal and non-hierarchical relationship between different fields of knowledge.
Between August 29 and 31, 2012, UFS hosted the seminar Cultures in Negative and the Modeling of Identities: Conspiracies, Antis, and Myths, an event that marked the official founding of NEC. The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. José Eduardo Franco, Director of CLEPUL (Center for Lusophone and European Literatures and Cultures at the University of Lisbon), consolidating the agreement between UFS and the University of Lisbon and establishing NEC as CLEPUL's international research hub.
The first edition of REVEC was published in 2015, consolidating the editorial project. In the 2013-2016 period, it was classified in the Qualis evaluation of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes) with a B4 rating. And in the 2017-2020 evaluation, the journal obtained an A4 rating in the Qualis evaluation, reinforcing its relevance in the Brazilian academic scene. In 2020, REVEC became associated with ABEC (Brazilian Association of Scientific Publishers), began assigning DOIs to publications, and started using ORCID identifiers for authors.
In 2025, it received a B2 rating in Qualis CAPES (2021-2024), which prompted important adjustments to editorial policies to meet quality requirements. In 2026, it also incorporated the use of the Research Organization Registry (ROR), increasing transparency in the identification of institutions linked to research. In the same year, it adopted the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license, ensuring the integrity of articles in an open access environment and allowing authors to retain their rights without restrictions.
These initiatives reaffirm REVEC's commitment to national and international scientific communication, research visibility, and editorial excellence, consolidating its role as an instrument of integration and dialogue among researchers and contributing to critical and innovative perspectives on contemporary cultural phenomena.
