Abstract: Aurora is the first American film by Friedrich W. Murnau, a director who takes his first steps in the Expressionist field and who for Fox can put his artistic sensitivity to good use together with the important technical innovations made possible by the large budget available. The contrast between the urban world and the rural world is evident in the film, with all the references to these correlates (characters, places, values), and their contamination. The analysis of a timeless work in the light of an interpretative key focused on the present and which favors the function of cinema as an object of knowledge of the world.
Keywords: Silent Movie; Tragic Drama; The City; Cinema and Space; City-Country Division.
