Abstract

This article aims to analyze the socio-historical conditions that enabled the rise of Bolsonarism in Brazil. To address these issues, we analyzed: the role of broad coalitions in the Brazilian political system and the conditions that led to the current situation of rupture; the position occupied by Bolsonaro in the game of national political forces and, finally, the main sectors that favored the crisis and that started to support the political project represented by him. The central conclusion is that the rupture in the alliance system opened space for a group of outsider groups, with no voice within the executive and legislative branches and with a strong anti-system discourse.
