Well beyond interventions and institutionalization: graffiti in João Pessoa, following in the paths of Múmia

The Graffiti in João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil, is presented as a practice that combines institutionalization, visualities, and singular trajectories. Drawing on authors such as Simmel, Lahire, Certeau, Barth, and Campos, the text shows how urban actions articulate stable social forms and creative expressions that produce diverse meanings. The ethnography of Múmia Graffiti highlights this tension: his history marked by displacement, family ruptures, the influence of Graffiti tagging and Hip-Hop, and subjective reinventions reveals how individuals reinterpret global references and local contexts. Networks of sociability, bodily visualities, and biographical experiences shape styles, forms of belonging, and the transformation of the graffiti field.
