Abstract

This article analyzes the acquisition and distribution of food for the migrant population in Piauí during the drought of 1877-1879. To this end, it examines the dynamics of supply in the province of Piauí during the period of crisis, as well as the distribution of food to the migrant population, with a focus on those settled in the Colonial Nuclei. The sources used included documents from the Piauí Public Aid Commissions, provincial reports and news published in Teresina periodicals. It was found that the diet was based on cereals, mainly flour, and green meat from cattle, which was not always offered in quantities proportional to the migrants' dietary needs.
