Resumen

This review of The Engineer of Death, by Marcio Pitliuk seeks to discuss the writing of the historical novel based on a horrendous and frightening crime that left unparalleled marks and transformed the entire world society. The Holocaust brought irreparable consequences and decimated millions of Jews. In this sense, in The Engineer of Death we can see not only the historical discourse, in a specific time, but the reality of the facts that occurred and which require transmission to contemporary society with the aim of resignifying and alerting the anti-Semitic and hate speech that plagues the world. social context. In the novel in question, ambition and corruption within the Nazis reveal the various faces of human identity. The characters Carl Farben and Martina Kaufmann host and organize contrasting plans regarding the extermination of Jews and the desire for justice for inhumane acts committed. In this order, engineer Farben seeks power and develops a product that will allow millions of people to be murdered at a low cost for the Reich. On the other hand, Kaufmann, a German Jewish woman who remained hidden during the Holocaust and, subsequently, longs for justice for those who committed such atrocity and extermination. Therefore, it is a reading that privileges large doses of historical elements that serve as a denunciation and that are mixed with the fictional in this literary composition, as well as recording the dialogues of Nazi ideology and the poignancy that memories of the war must always be remembered.
