Abstract

This article analyzes social events widely reported by the media that are characterized by political violence perpetrated by Brazilian political authorities against education professionals. The analysis seeks to show that such violence is not merely arbitrary, but rather is established within a clearly defined network that, through the use of fascist-like tactics such as intimidation, the production of fear through moral panic, persecution, and unjust punishment, constructs silencing mechanisms, undermines academic freedom, and promotes an instrumental form of education that invalidates critical thinking and the full exercise of citizenship. The analysis of the events presented here makes it possible to identify central figures who transformed surveillance of teachers into a platform for political capital. Through the use of legislative mandates, digital tools, and inflammatory discourse, these actors created an ecosystem of fear that induces self-censorship and the deterioration of teachers’ well-being and, consequently, obstructs democracy.
