DESDOBRAMENTOS DO BREXIT SOBRE O MOVIMENTO NACIONALISTA DA IRLANDA DO NORTE
Abstract
This paper defends that the corrosion of the social basis supporting the British Crown in Ulster, and, the stalemate on Brexit negotiations, will favour the Nationalist movement in Northern Ireland, expanding its electoral basis. In extremis, if the stalemate creates a hard border against the European integration, there is the risk of this support to the Nationalists spill over the Republican movement, which is the armed front, eroding the regime that, since 1998, has transformed the conflict into a non-violent dispute. Regarding the methods employed, a bibliographical review on electoral preference in Northern Ireland is made and socio-economic indicators. A theorical review aims to comprehend the best lens to observe the British-Irish conflict; and, concerning the religious institutions as aggregating movements, Putnam’s thesis on associationism will be utilized.
