NOTES ABOUT DEMOCRATIC TRANSITION AND CRISIS IN CONTEMPORARY BRAZIL
Abstract
This article presents a brief reflection about democratic transition and crisis in Latin America, specifically
analyzing the case of contemporary Brazil. For both makes use the literature review articulating mainly
Latin American authors, since this self-referential epistemological approach can contribute to a deeper
understanding of the Latin American experience of democratic transition and crisis. From a preliminary
concept of democracy are presented reflections upon the quality of democracy and democratic crisis,
deliberative democracy and representative democracy. We analyze the Brazilian case, so that it enables the
construction of a theoretical model capable of understanding the macro context of Latin America. We
conclude by suggesting that the notion of a crisis of democracy can not be applied to the Latin American
context without any questioning.
