About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The Revista Sergipana de Educação Ambiental (REVISEA) is an open-access, continuous-flow electronic publication, exclusively linked to the Environmental Education Research and Study Group (GEPEASE/UFS) and to the Sala Verde Project at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS), located on the São Cristóvão Campus, Sergipe, Brazil.
Founded in 2014, REVISEA’s mission is to disseminate scientific productions, theoretical reflections, and methodological research results that contribute to the advancement of the field of Environmental Education (EE) in both formal and non-formal contexts, with particular emphasis on teacher education and the training of environmental educators in Brazil. It is published through the UFS Journal Portal and operates on the OJS3 platform, in a free and open-access modality.
The journal focuses on the scientific dissemination of studies and critical reflections that strengthen the Science of Environmental Education and related areas such as Education, Environment, Sustainability, Public Policy, Socio-environmental Rights, and Climate Justice. Valuing interdisciplinary, critical, decolonial, and multi-referential approaches, REVISEA seeks to contribute to the construction of environmental thinking committed to the defense of life, diversity, and socio-environmental justice.
Main themes of interest include:
Theoretical and methodological foundations of Environmental Education;
Pedagogical practices and teacher education in Environmental Education;
Public policies and participatory environmental management;
Social movements, activism, and socio-environmental resistance;
Traditional knowledge, territories, justice, and environmental diversity;
Ecofeminism, decoloniality, and Southern epistemologies;
Social, digital, and environmental technologies in Environmental Education;
Communication, language, and media in Environmental Education;
Sustainability, biodiversity, and climate change;
Indicators and evaluative processes in socio-environmental contexts;
Environmental Education in rural, Indigenous, quilombola, and inclusive contexts;

The journal is directed toward researchers, teachers, students, education professionals, socio-environmental practitioners, members of grassroots collectives and social movements, and public managers engaged in transformative and emancipatory educational processes.
REVISEA does not accept submissions that are merely descriptive, such as literature reviews based solely on database searches without critical analysis or without relevant theoretical-methodological contributions to the field of Environmental Education. Originality, scientific rigor, and a commitment to social transformation are prioritized.
Languages Accepted for Publication

Evaluation Policy
REVISEA adopts a double-blind peer-review system and uses the following criteria for manuscript evaluation: alignment with the journal’s focus and scope; compliance with technical, linguistic, and formatting norms (ABNT); thematic relevance; theoretical-methodological consistency; and textual coherence and cohesion.
The evaluation process occurs in three stages:
(1) A preliminary editorial assessment (editor-in-chief, associate editors, and editorial team) to verify compliance with the journal’s guidelines;
(2) Textual similarity checking using the Turnitin platform to ensure originality;
(3) Initial evaluation of the manuscript's relevance, scope alignment, academic contribution, and quality.
Aligned with Open Science principles, REVISEA allows the opening of the double-blind review process upon consent of the reviewers. Authors may choose different levels of transparency, including the possibility of interacting directly with reviewers.
Reviewers issue formal evaluations through a specific form, recommending: full acceptance without modifications; acceptance with revisions; or rejection. When authorized, peer-review reports may be published alongside the article, increasing transparency and recognition of the evaluative work.
The estimated timeframe for the complete evaluation process is up to six months, depending on reviewer response times and author revisions.
Reviewer Exogeneity
The journal supports and encourages the participation of reviewers external to the institution responsible for publication.
Evaluation Turnaround Time
REVISEA informs that the average estimated timeframe for the complete evaluation and editorial decision is up to six months from submission, varying according to complexity of revisions, reviewer availability, and author responsiveness.
Plagiarism Screening Policy
REVISEA firmly rejects any form of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or misuse of texts generated by artificial intelligence without proper attribution. All submissions undergo similarity checks using tools such as CopySpider and Turnitin. The maximum permitted self-citation index is 5%.
The journal follows the ethical principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
Rejection Rate
From January 1 to December 31, 2024, REVISEA registered a rejection rate of 37% of submitted manuscripts.
