Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the discourses of the struggles for recognition of deaf social actors, expressed in their self-narratives, in the face of the denials they have suffered in their educational trajectories. We use Critical Discourse Analysis, focusing on the Sociological and Communicational Approach to Discourse. We engage with Deaf Studies and the theory of the Struggle for Recognition for a social and discursive reading. For the linguistic analysis, we apply Systemic-Functional Grammar. The corpus consists of "self-narratives" of deaf students from the Libras Language course at the Federal University of Sergipe, analyzed according to the principles of qualitative-interpretative methodology. The results revealed the struggles for recognition in the face of denials in the educational sphere.
